Michigan Tri-Share Prototype Update

A new year always brings hope, optimism, and new opportunities. As such we are collaborating with partners and across multiple imperatives to support the launch of one of two SE Michigan Tri-Share hubs. And it is not too late for local employers to join the planning!

The program brings together private and public organizations to increase access to high-quality, affordable childcare for working families. The program now covers 52 Michigan counties that include the City of Detroit with hub administration by Mothering Justice, and Everybody Ready and Hope Starts Here. The facilitator hubs serve as an intermediary between employers, families, and childcare providers.

Partners vital to the HSH Hub include Everybody Ready and Brilliant Detroit supporting the overall program management with the ultimate goal to create direct ways for working families to not only receive childcare support, but also access to vital resources needed to ensure success for our Wayne County infants to 8-year-olds.

“The pandemic has only exacerbated the reality that without affordable childcare, fewer parents can fully participate in the workforce,” said Susan Corbin, Director the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity in a recent Tri-Share media release. “As we continue down the path of building a new, better economy for Michiganders, we must find ways to decrease the costs putting less stress on family budgets, like childcare.”

The Tri-Share program initiates a shared cost of childcare split equally between eligible employees, employers, and the State of Michigan. Coordination is provided by the facilitator hubs.
