Our Approach
A Collaborative Approach To Early Childhood Success
Hope Starts Here has identified key metrics that fall within three areas. These levers are key in identifying our impact.
Equitable Access
Closing the pre-pandemic 30,000 early childhood education seat gap, and guaranteeing every pregnant Detroit family, birth to age eight child and their families and early childhood providers have the same opportunities as others to ensure their sufficiency, health, well-being, safety and preparedness to thrive.
Affordability
Addressing issues of families and providers being able to afford critical and necessary services.
Quality
Establishing high-quality early childhood programs – in both teacher/caregiver preparedness and physical environments – that promote wholistic development of Detroit’s youth.
How We Do It
Our integrated approach involves research and planning, our community champions and evaluation to ensure children can succeed.
Taking Action
Our Six Imperatives are led by community champions working to overcome the primary challenges in early childhood education. Their strategies pave the way to put Detroit’s children first.
Policy & Research
The Hope Starts Here framework uses research, data and best practices from cities across the U.S. and mold them to fit the needs of Detroit.
We work with local, state and federal policy makers, as well as businesses, communities and citizens to ensure Detroit’s children and families come first.
Measuring Success
Hope Starts Here measures its success through outcome-based metrics. Using quantitative and qualitative data, this approach evaluates the actions of each team, along with public policy accomplishments and childhood development improvements.
