We are in a critical time, especially for childcare stabilization. Most recently, the American Rescue Plan Act which reserved $702 million specifically for a Childcare Stabilization Fund and $438.1 million for Child Care Assistance Fund which makes up Michigan’s $1.1 Billon Child Care Allocation was approved by the Federal Government and allocated to States.
With this influx of unprecedented funding for early childhood, we now have an opportunity to fix a broken system and provide equitable access to childcare for children and families who need it most and allow providers to reopen and remain open. If these funds are not used strategically, we could force childcare providers to close their doors permanently and miss an opportunity to greatly improve our system of early care and education. In moments like this, we need you, our broad community, to join us in demanding our elected officials to design an equitable plan to best support children and families. We distributed an action alert earlier this month and we are still in need of your partnership. To join us in this effort click here and follow the prompts to send a message. If you’ve already sent a message please share and request others to join us! In Detroit, we need equitable access to high-quality and affordable child care, with the American Rescue Plan Funds (stabilization & child care assistance funds) we have an opportunity to better support children and families or further undermine what’s necessary for children and families to truly thrive. Let’s not miss this opportunity.
