BIPOC/ALAANA Coalition

Join Us in Expanding Awareness of Prenatal to 3 Policy Priorities in Michigan’s Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Communities.

For the first time in our nation’s history, the majority of children under the age of five are children of color according to the State of America’s Children Report by the Children’s Defense Fund. These children and their families are more racially and ethnically diverse in their cultural and social backgrounds, experiences, abilities and needs. This change in demographics is only expected to grow larger in the years ahead. And we need to be prepared to address these diverse needs.

As individuals with unique social identities, experiences and needs, we must all come together to support our communities, in our work and through social services. To best support these diverse individuals, families and children, the BIPOC/ALAANA Coalition was formed with funding from the Pritzker Children’s Initiative (PCI) to ensure that historically underinvested communities are connecting to resources they need for their families to thrive.

What is the Michigan PN-3 BIPOC/ALAANA Coalition?

The Michigan PN-3 BIPOC/ALAANA Coalition is an effort led by Hope Starts Here and Mothering Justice, and it is made up of Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC)/African, Latinx, Asian, Arab, and Native American (ALAANA) people and programs that are building awareness of state policy opportunities around prenatal to age 3 (PN-3) issues for people of color.
