Advocacy Opportunities for Early Childhood Advocates

Would you like to see a better future for your children? As parents, caregivers, and educators, we need to speak up and let our voices be heard in Lansing. We all want significant changes in policy and programs that will benefit our children so they can grow and proposer.

We need to let our legislators know they must prioritize investments in early childhood education and care to make these changes. The people making the decisions need to hear from us, what we’ve experienced – with our children, our family, and what needs to be done differently to make things better. Without our voices, the policies may not create the solutions needed.

Support A Historic Increase to the Michigan Earned Income Tax Credit

Michigan’s Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is one of the lowest of 31 states with state EITCs. We should be on par with other states. With a historic surplus of state revenues and rising inflation hurting working families, expanding Michigan’s EITC would help nearly 750,000 hardworking Michigan families and almost 1 million Michigan children.

By supporting expanding Michigan’s EITC to at least 30 percent of the federal EITC, it will help low-income working families and children.

The time is NOW to act to support Michigan’s hardworking families.

Support Early On Michigan and the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation Program

The state legislature is currently negotiating its top priorities. We must ensure that Early On Michigan and the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation Program are front and center in these discussions.

Please take action today by calling your state Senator and state Representative and urging them to invest in these two programs. Not sure what to say when you call? Follow the scripts below.

About Early On Michigan – Michigan’s early intervention program supports young children with developmental delays and disabilities.

Early On is looking for organizations to sign on to the attached document that urges lawmakers to increase investment in Early On in the state budget.

About The Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation Program, also called social-emotional consulting, helps childcare teachers provide higher quality care by attending to kids’ social and emotional needs, reducing teacher stress and burnout, and preventing children from being suspended or expelled from childcare.
